Double Indemnity has been called “a film without a single trace of pity or love.” Do you agree with this statement? Think about the motivations that lie behind the actions of Walter Neff and Phyllis Dietrichson when you consider your response.

I agree that Double Indemnity is a film without a single trace of pity or love. In the movie, it is easy to see that there are other motives behind the actions of the characters. For example, Phyllis Dietrichson has played a part in the murders of two people. I think her true motive is money. before killing her husband, she took out a very expensive insurance policy on him without his knowledge (with the help of Walter Neff). I didn't see one moment when she looked sad or felt guilty for what she had done.

I also think that Walter Neff may have believed he was in  love with Phyllis Dietrichson, however during the murder of her husband, their relationship changed and Neff was more standoffish towards Phyllis. Also, their relationship is really awkward. There is no way any of that was real. I'm not sure if the characters were supposed to be awkward or if the acting was just bad. #TheWorldMayNeverKnow

Lady Macbeth's Netflix

If Lady Macbeth were alive today, she would definitely have a Netflix account. Her recommendation list would look a little something like this....

1. A Simple Plan

Fate vs free will has been a hot topic this year. I personally believe my life has been guided by fate. I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason and that there are no mistakes. I believe that we make our own decisions but our fate has been predetermined and we can't change it. It makes sense if you don't think about it. In Macbeth, we see the influence of the supernatural on the decisions of the characters. It raises the question of whether the characters are making their own conscious decisions. I relate this to a higher power guiding our decisions, but in such a way that we think we are making our own decisions. Once again, it makes sense if you don't think about it. I think Shakespeare believed that our fate is predetermined. He shows this through the witches prophecies. I also think that he believed that our choices are guided by some supernatural power.  Once again shown through the witches influence on Macbeth and lady Macbeth.

IBmakingart

This piece of art is Miradas I by Moris (Isreal Meza Moreno). It is Acrylic paint over a highly peixelated photo on canvas. Miradas I questions how much you can tell about a person from their eyes. Since the piece is paint over a picture, the outline of the people in the picture can be seen faintly through the paint. It made me look closer so I could try to figure out what these people actually look like and maybe where they came from. Im not exactly sure what the artist's puropose for this was, but it was really cool. looking at this art I got the feeling that this piece was targeting profiling and sterotyping. It made you look at the people as people. You couldn't really see their race, religion, or sexual orientation which I really liked.

http://www.designyourway.net/blog/inspiration/burger-king-vs-kfc-vs-mcdonalds-print-advertising/
Little Picture:
This advertisement is from burger king. It is advertising their new 7 inch long burger. It shows a pretty woman about to have her mind blown away by the amazing new taste of the burger.

Big Picture:
The deadly sin used in this advertisement is gluttony. It is persuading people to buy more food from burger king. The burger is also bigger than a regular burger so people who buy this burger are eating more than they normally would. The text beside the picture of the burger says "fill your desire for something long, juicy and flame-grilled with the new bk super seven incher. yearn for more after you taste the mind-blowing burger that comes with a single beef patty, topped with American cheese, crispy onions and the A1 thick & Hearty Steak Sauce." By saying "Yearn for more after you taste.." they are persuading the audience to have more than one. It is encouraging the audience to indulge in gluttony. It also shows the greed of the advertisers ( burger king).

Audience:
I believe the intended audience is the american middle class. They advertise that it only cost $6.25 for a whole meal! which is the average amount the middle class pays for fast food. The add could be targeting adults but may also influence kids. Most of the time, it is a child that convinces mom or dad to get fast food for dinner. However, it is an adult that is usually buying the food.

What's in a name?

My name is Taylor Kiara Keyes. I've always hated my name. My first name is my mothers maiden name and my last name is my dads last name. My middle name has a long story behind it. When my mother was pregnant with me she asked all of her coworkers to submit a middle name idea. One of her good friends submitted the name Kiara. My mother wasn't very fond of the name, but about a week before my birth, he died in a motorcycle accident. My mother named me Kiara in remembrance of him. Kiara is also an Irish name meaning "dark haired". Coincidently I have dark hair. My name doesn't really define me, but it does describe me.

Being an individual and also a part of a larger whole can be difficult at times. You want to be yourself and the person everyone else wants you to be. I constantly find myself putting what I want to do on hold in order to make someone else happy. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with that, but it would be nice if it didn't have to happen so often. The problem with being one person and also a part of a whole is you either let yourself down or let others down. It's a very hard decision to make. At the end I chose to be myself and let others either except me or reject me. It's one of the only options.
